A Beacon on Students’ Way to Success--Dr. Xu Hao, biology teacher of Shanghai Thomas School

Prestigious University Background with PHD Degree


许浩老师于复旦大学公共卫生学院获得医学学士学位,留学瑞典七年,在于默奥大学(Umeå University)获得分子生物学硕士、博士学位,博士期间多篇论文发表在国际SCI杂志,具有综合性的医学和生物学背景。加盟托马斯实验学校后从事生物国际课程教学,有三年多AP, A level/IGCSE生物的教学经验。


Dr. Xu Hao obtained his bachelor's degree in Medicine from the School of Public Health of Fudan University. He studied at Umeå University Sweden for seven years in pursuit of his master’s degree and PhD in Molecular Biology. His doctoral works have been published in SCI journals. Being equipped with comprehensive medical and biological knowledge, he joined Shanghai Thomas School. So far, he has more than three years of teaching experience in AP, A level/IGCSE Biology.

许老师生物背景知识扎实,课堂条理清晰,教学深入浅出,课堂教学中除了知识的传授更注重方法的传授。他的课堂总是要求所有同学的积极参与,一直在努力上好每一堂“过得很快”的生物课。同时,他在托马斯学校所开发的生物课程也非常注重国内特点和国外特点的融合。目前,他正依托上海托马斯实验学校的平台,参与分子生物高级实验室的建立,为今后个性化生物实验项目的开展做好准备,努力达成生物科目深度学习的目的。


Dr. Xu has solid background in Biology, coherent structure in teaching, as well as the ability to explain complicated biological theory in an easy language. In addition to teaching knowledge, he puts more emphasis on teaching students the efficient ways to study. His class always requires the active participation of all students, and he has been working hard to make them feel joyful and “time flies” in class. At the same time, the biology curriculum he is developing at Thomas school also aims to integrate the domestic and international characteristics. Currently, relying on the platform of Shanghai Thomas School, he is trying to establish the advanced molecular biology laboratory, the goal of which is to prepare for the future development of personalized biological projects and to achieve the goal of in-depth learning of biological subjects.

严慈相济的班主任


作为一名高中班的班主任,许老师在班级管理中以言传身教的方式践行“尊重”两个字,他善于倾听学生意见与想法,理解学生的个性化,同时他也崇尚“制度管理人,规则管理人,而非人管理人”。在任职班主任期间,形成并完善了班级电子设备使用规则、宿舍卫生管理制度……在制度不断的完善过程中帮助学生逐渐养成了敬畏规则并主动遵守规则的风气。一个人成长的道路总是漫长艰辛又充满挑战的,而学生品格的形成更非一蹴而就。许老师认为,作为一名人民教师就是要善于抓住每一次教育契机,这一次次契机正是孩子们学会学习,学会做人,树立良好品格的绝佳机会。


As a homeroom teacher, Dr. Xu practices the word "respect" in class management. He is openminded to students' opinions and ideas and understands students' diversity. Meanwhile, he also advocates the class should be "managed by systems and rules, not by people". He has formed and improved the rules for the use of electronic equipment and dormitory management. In the process of continuous improvement of the class, students gradually develop awe and active compliance with the rules.The road of one's growth is always long, arduous and full of challenges, and the formation of virtuous character is not achieved overnight. Mr. Xu believes that as a teacher, we should be alerted to seize every opportunity to educate the students, teach them the way to learn and help them to shape a great personality.
